Abstract
School Resource Officers (SRO) are a vital part of any school district and school building. This research project aims to understand how SROs construct their identity in a school building. How do SRO go about in creating their role with all stakeholders of the school community through the frame of Role Identity Theory. A single case study was used for the research design. The data for this project was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation of 4 school SROs, 7 security advisors, and 3 high school principals. The themes that emerged from the research included relationship building and trust, communication and collaboration, and following the school districts Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The themes from the study will help improve processes and procedures for SROs and school administrators. The research will help to further expand the knowledge of SRO perspectives and further future research with specific strategies and techniques that SROs use to build their role within a school building.
