Abstract

This study examines the forces that influence the decision-making process of photo editors. Specifically, the study analyzes the impact of a community of practice, personal visual preferences, experiences and emotions on the framing of a visual narrative. To examine this impact, the researcher provided nine photo editors with 40 photographs of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and asked them to create a final edit and sequence of 10 based on their idea and target audience. The report presents the analysis of the photo edits and the results of interviews with photo editors, offering insights into the various forces that shape their editorial decisions.
