Abstract
Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is a crucial framework within educational settings, particularly within special education, addressing the significant impact of trauma on learners with diverse needs. This review explores the effects of TIC on students' emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development across various special education settings, emphasizing the necessity for environments that foster safety and resilience. The systematic review addresses key questions: What are the types and extent of training programs available for identifying or applying TIC practices in special education settings? What assessment tools are used to identify trauma or measure the effectiveness of trauma-informed care? Were strategies employed as a school-wide application or at the individual student level within special education settings? This review highlights the critical role of TIC in creating supportive educational environments that promote healing and development for students with disabilities. By identifying gaps in training and assessment, this study underscores the need for comprehensive strategies that can be tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities, ultimately aiming to enhance educational outcomes and resilience in learners.
