Abstract
The university photographer plays a key role in producing photographs to show and sell the image of diversity through an institution's marketing materials. This research aims to understand the role of university photographers and the institutional expectations for them to produce diverse photographs, as well as to explore perceived pressures the photographers may feel. Institutional expectations include depicting racial and gender diversity, showing students with a socially constructed preapproved appearance, and the understanding that photographs can be used in a variety of marketing materials without the photographer's approval. A semistructured interview process was used as the qualitative method for this research.
