Text from page 2: It is the purpose of this thesis to describe briefly the origin, distribution, and character of the soils in the different parts of the State, as determined by extensive field and laboratory studies and experiments, and to show their composition, utilization, management and adaptations. A special effort has been made to indicate the causes of the characteristics of each soil type PER SE, and the causes for the variations of the soils of the State as a whole.
