Abstract
[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] Organizational culture shapes how members of a group act. The culture has the power to exclude potential new members who do not fit into the culture of the organization. Research on urban school-based agriculture programs would indicate that urban agriculture students face barriers to their participation in the National FFA Organization. The experiences of the urban FFA members at the National FFA Convention would an understanding of how urban agriculture students view the organizational the FFA. The researcher followed one urban FFA chapter during the FFA convention and conducted interviews before, during, and convention. The researcher also conducted focus groups and field notes at the convention. The members of Belmont FFA did not generally perceive their experiences at the National FFA Convention as a barrier to their involvement in the FFA. They were positive towards the FFA artifacts as well as the beliefs and values they identified at the convention.
