Abstract

This economic report is a refinement and an update of a 1990 study conducted by Liu and Wu that compares the cost of transporting coal from mines to power plants by coal log pipeline (CPL) with other modes of transportation including truck, rail and the coal slurry pipeline. The 1990 study revealed that under a wide range of conditions, CLP is the most economical mode for transporting coal from coal mines to power plants. Great savings can be accomplished by using CLP to transport coal.
