Text from page 3: "The object in carrying out the investigation here reported has been to determine certain facts which would help to formulate the correct idea of moisture movements. The investigation not only includes a laboratory study of certain physical forces at work in the soil, but also a careful investigation of the more important question of soil moisture movements in the field. The investigation is only the initiation of a continued study which is to be made on this question at Missouri University."
