Abstract

Higher education opportunities were previously scarce for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), but are steadily becoming more common. The Propel Program, a two-year certificate program, provides students with IDDs an accessible higher education option to earn college credit and work experience. The purpose of this study is to provide quality improvement data to the Propel Program concerning their admissions process. This study seeks to understand what demographic variables were associated with first-semester GPA, also specifically examining the reliability of the Post-Secondary Readiness Rubric (PSRR) and whether it predicts first semester GPA. The results suggest some evidence for reliability for the PSRR, though the subscale with the strongest association with GPA included both PSRR items and items designed by the Propel Program. Demographic variables such as race and access to a computer and laptop at home also provided unique insights into first-semester GPA. The implications of this data for the Propel Program and directions for further research are discussed.
