Abstract

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] Energy consumption is in the closest relationship with human life, manufacturing production and any other life activities any time. Current literatures concerning on energy consumption cost of industrial equipment mostly focus on case study on specific equipment such as boilers, gas station and etc. Among these papers that consider life cycle cost are mainly confined on operation phase which is including purchasing stage, installing stage, running stage not extend to the upriver and downriver stages during their whole life. However as we know the process of manufacturing these equipment and recycling them after usage also require energy consumption cost. This study develops a life cycle energy consumption cost model for general manufacturing equipment which is mostly used in industrial area. This model could calculate an expended life cycle energy consumption cost involving manufacturing energy consumption cost and running usage energy consumption cost. After that, an Excel calculator is given and four independent variables are analyzed for the effect to this model. In the end this study takes electric motor as example to give detailed calculation of life cycle energy consumption cost and also comparison of new model with current one and MotorMaster are presented to tell the necessity of this study.
