Abstract

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] In today's research world, a lot of image measurement work are still being done in labor intensive and time consuming manual methods. Automate or semi-automate the data collection process will tremendously help the research process. This thesis describes my effort on utilizing computer vision technology to develop GUI software tools to achieve this goal. It covers the realization of such applications on both computers and handheld devices by presenting one project for each. The first project deals with ground truth data collection for aerial imagery. The second project is to help plant scientist retrieve data for phenotype study. The description of each project includes the design and implementation of the graphical user interface and the computer vision algorithms it adopts. The software from the first project has been used to provide ground truth data to evaluate the quality of camera parameters in bundle adjustment system. And the mobile app from the second project has been used in a grape leaf study.
