Abstract

With the advancement of gas turbine engine technology the demand for materials research on turbine alloys has increased. In this research program, two turbine alloys, Ti-6A1-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo and Waspaloy, were observed in respect to their inherent residual stress and the effect of stress ratio on their fatigue-crack growth behavior. Residual stresses, measured by blind hole drilling techniques, were found to be different in the component and test specimen and could be related to the microstructure. The effect of increasing the R - ratio was to increase the fatigue-crack growth rates.
