Abstract
Social and economical advantages of automation has made robotic systems a vital part of manufacturing. The key to a successful automation is a robotic system which has the ability to sense its work frame in addition to doing the physical labor involved. Machine vision is one of the most powerful of all sensors. Of course it is not restricted to robotic applications, but it started as an added sense for robots and that will probably be its main use for some time to come. The purpose of this study is to develop a computer integrated system for object recognition by two dimensional geometrical shape and part number recognition. The recognized objects are then transferred to their prescribed locations. The classical moment methods utilized for image analysis are presented.
