Abstract
When it comes to the integration of refugees, receiving aid from resettlement agencies is crucial to how well they can manage their health and overall needs for daily living. Important factors when providing for refugees are an open cultural empathetic approach, awareness of language barriers, and challenges with the coordination of care. This study examined the utilization of occupational therapy services to aid with the coordination of care of refugees. The objective was to determine if occupational therapy and its holistic approach would help to fill in the gaps regarding the barriers mentioned above. A thematic analysis from a semi-structured interview was carried out to discover the perspectives of refugees, along with the use of occupational therapy’s clinical resources to determine their functional capabilities. Occupational therapy services were provided to aid with the plan of care. This included referrals to certain health facilities, along with providing incoming refugees with the proper resources at the refugee resettlement agency, Della Lamb. The study concluded that occupational therapy helped to bridge the gap with the overall benefit and health integration of refugees at resettlement agencies.
