Abstract
This dissertation explores the contextual challenges leaders face in American International Schools in Colombia (AISC) and how that context affects their approaches to leadership. It looks at the dynamics of leading change within the AISC context, seeking to understand the challenges leaders face when leading change and the strategies they use to overcome them. In the diverse contexts of AISC, leaders confront various cultural and contextual intricacies that make for a unique and challenging landscape in which to lead. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, leaders of AISC were interviewed to uncover the challenges they encounter and the strategies they use to lead change. Additionally, this research explains how the cultural and organizational settings within which AISC leaders operate shape their leadership decisions. This study contributes to the existing literature on leadership and leading change in AISC while providing leaders with a resource to lead more effectively within these uniquely challenging educational environments.
