Abstract
This MA project explores the design strategies behind award-winning covers of city and regional magazines, driven by a personal interest in magazine aesthetics. Through a series of semi-structured interviews with professional magazine designers, this research uncovers the creative processes and decision-making methods behind compelling cover designs. Key areas of focus include conceptualization, aesthetic consistency, typography, photography, and color. The findings were compiled into a research article aimed at magazine industry professionals, particularly journalists who are often not directly involved in design. By bridging the gap between editorial and art departments, this project aims to give journalists a look into the design that frames their work and foster a more collaborative, informed newsroom.
