Abstract
Interactive computer program, ISD-CROSS-FORSS, was developed to simultaneously: 1) synthesize a force system to drive a 4R-4bar linkage with desired input motion, and input-output forces, and 2) synthesize the size and shape of link cross sections to withstand the maximum allowable stress in the links. The program includes an interactive structural and dimensional force system synthesis algorithm; which is used as a pre-post precessor to a numerical optimization based dimensional synthesis algorithm. Two examples, fork lift and oil well, were used to investigate and demonstrate the capabilities and usefulness of ISD-CROSS-FORSS.
