Abstract

"Missouri is one of the leading states in black walnut production. Many of its soils are ideal for walnut. Black walnut wood has been in great demand for furniture, gun stocks and other purposes since colonial days. More recently, veneer and woodenware items have also increased the market for this species both in the United States and abroad. The development of mechanical hullers, crackers and pickers have also expanded the market for nut meats and shell products."--First page.
