Abstract
The provided study within this research is based on the understanding, development and further knowledge of the importance of representation for Black and Latinx communities within the profession of local news. Whether that's through talent, production team in a newsroom, management or content. Both George Gerber's cultivation theory and Lev Vygotsky's social constructivism theory were used within this research to seek a detailed perception of the world in which individuals live and work. In addition, the theories rely on participant's views of a particular experience formed by interactions of others through historical and cultural norms which influence daily lives. The interviews conducted focused on the participant's opinions of their current and previous work environment in hopes to improve and expand the necessities of diversity, equity and inclusion within a newsroom. In addition, the goal is to provide a voice for the minority group and raise consciousness to enhance the journalist's outlook on the profession of news overall.
