Abstract
"Sire selection is one of the most important decisions made by a cow-calf producers. If it is effective, sire selection will account for nearly 90 percent of the genetic improvement in a herd. In herds that produce their own replacement females, 87 1/2 percent of the heifer's genetic makeup comes from the last three bulls used in the pedigree."--First page.
