Abstract
This research article examines the development of a framework for new client intake and assessment at an adult day program. This new framework, created with an OT perspective, allows day program staff to explore the individual strengths and challenges of new clients, facilitating the creation of personalized goals that reflect each client's needs and aspirations. Occupational therapists are uniquely trained to identify and analyze physical and cognitive barriers to independence, allowing for a better understanding of clients' capabilities. This tailored approach will enhance the effectiveness of intervention strategies to foster the skills necessary to promote independence, develop and maintain successful peer relationships, and become a vital member of the community. The finalized intake framework consists of 20 instruments that include formal assessments, questionnaires, screeners, and other instruments. The founder of Day Solutions, Inc. evaluated the framework with the Doctoral Capstone Experience Evaluation (DCEE): Evaluation of the OTD Student survey. Overall perceptions included consistently outstanding performance throughout the 14-week project, as reflected by a score of all 5s (exceeding expectations).
