Abstract
"Farmers face risks of adverse events such as excess moisture, drought, frost and hail which reduce crop yields, sometimes to catastrophically low levels. Similarly, for some crops the risk of quality damage and resultant reduction in sale price/unit is significant. These adverse events are, for the most, outside their control. To provide financial protection, farmers often use crop insurance as a component of their risk management plan."--Introduction
