Abstract

"Scientists and engineers employed in underwater research often find it desirable to spend more time underwater than is available with conventional SCUBA equipment. Sometimes this time must be spent in a cold and uncomfortable environment. Often samples taken at depth should not be transported to the surface without adequate and time-consuming preparation. Time in underwater operations is also lost when divers must surface in order to work out plans of attack for particular problems. These inconveniences and problems have partially been remedied by a variety of underwater habitats and structures."--Introduction.
