Abstract
An overhead composition control strategy was developed for the laboratory distillation column "Scott Model 9079". The column pressure, feed flow rate and accumulator level were held constant. The feed composition was taken as the disturbance variable. The overhead composition of the column was controlled directly by the reflux flow rate. The control elements in the distillation system were analyzed. The responses with a feedback and/or feedforward control system were examined by means of a simulation program. The sampled-data control system was discussed and a control algorithm developed for a micro-processor.
