[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] The following essays are explorations of otherness as identity, as discursive force, and as feeling across three different North American socio-cultural settings. As such, they represent a collection of endeavors to forge imaginative interactions between religious studies and academic feminisms that circumvent the two fields' conflict driven history and as such reflect a variety of engagements and encounters that are characteristically interdisciplinary and polymethodological. What follows in this collection emerges from the tension of a simultaneous formation by academic feminisms and religious studies and thus reflects an attempt to locate viable spaces for productive meeting of these disciplinary forces. This collection argues that a promising starting place is the investment of both religious studies and academic feminisms in alterity.
