Abstract

This research project identifies major differences and similarities in how local and national U.S. reporters cover climate change and its impacts. Through a series of semi-structured interviews, the project discovered how reporters are struggling to use the term "climate change" and what practices they use to report on the climate crisis in an increasingly polarized society. Reporting on climate change is rapidly expanding and reporters use helpful third-party reporting tips and tools, more than initially anticipated. This project can be helpful to reporters who are new to reporting on climate as it includes tips on how to start working on this beat, how to navigate the multi-layered issue of climate change on a daily basis.
