Abstract

"The test cancellation rate for the laboratory over the last year has averaged from 2400-10000 tests/month. Different areas of the laboratory follow different practices for test cancellations and the number of reasons for cancellations has grown. Better test information is needed to ensure that tests get ordered properly and collected properly the first time. Steps need to be taken to reduce the time required to investigate test order issues and document test changes in order to ensure patient's receive the appropriate tests and clinicians have timely and necessary laboratory information for patient care decisions and treatment."--Executive summary.
