Abstract
"Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) is caused by maternal alloantibodies against fetal red blood cell antigens. Obstetric patients who have alloantibodies are screened with serial titers to determine if their fetus may be at risk for HDFN. Automated gel testing is a more efficient and reliable method of measuring obstetric antibody titers in the laboratory, as compared to conventional tube methodology. Gel titers are three times faster than the tube method, and more sensitive, which increases alloantibody titer results using the same patient sample. It is unknown if the higher titer results are clinically significant. The purpose of this study was to correlate the relationship between obstetric alloantibody titer results using automated gel versus tube method, and to evaluate the corresponding neonatal outcomes."--Introduction.
