Abstract

"This booklet is an informative summary of laws relating to parks and recreation as authorized in the Missouri State Statutes. Tax supported programs and services in the State of Missouri must have legal authority, through statues passed by Missouri General Assembly and signed by the Governor. These "enabling acts" prescribe conditions under which various functions of local government operate. They also provide a democratic process by which local people are given an opportunity to voice their desires concerning the scope of programs and services offered under legal authority. This booklet contains a collection of legal authorizations for providing local park and recreation programs and services. The following information should in no way be used as legal advice or legal basis for action. The numerical notations included, refer to appropriate Missouri State Statute sections which spell out in detail the law as passed by the State of Missouri. They should not be implemented without legal counsel from an attorney through the appropriate subdivisions of the state."--Preface.
