Abstract

In the United States, around 20 percent of children ages 3-17 struggle with mental, emotional, developmental, or behavioral disorders (American Psychological Association, 2022). As this number continues to rise, there are more parents and families impacted by the stigma surrounding behavioral and emotional disorders in children. There is a growing need for a way to reduce this stigma on all levels in order to change societal views. Therefore, the goal of this project was to reduce the stigma faced by parents of children with behavioral and/or mental health concerns by creating a podcast for public audiences. Through virtual interviews, podcast guests shared insight on their lived experiences raising children with behavioral and mental health concerns. By uploading these episodes for public listening, there is hope that other families, healthcare providers, students, and the general public can connect with the stories in these episodes to build unity and create change.
