Abstract
"The noted English clarinetist, Gervase de Peyer , has been a leading figure of Britain's musical life since he completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music and was awarded the Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. Mr. de Peyer has performed in concert with such distinguished artists as Benjamin Britten, Rostropovitch, Menuhin, Daniel Barenboim and Jacqueline du Pre. He has recorded the Brahms Clarinet Sonatas with Barenboim for Angel Records and Debussy's "Premiere Rhapsody" with Pierre Boulez. Until recently, he was principal clarinetist of the London Symphony Orchestra with which he made several world tours, appearing as soloist. Mr. de Peyer has also been guest soloist with the BBC Symphony, the London Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Detroit Symphony. He has appeared at festivals in Holland, Venice, Warsaw, and Vienna. Mr. de Peyer' s recording list is greater than any other clarinetist's including 10 concerti, nearly all of the classical chamber music and many modem works. Mr. de Peyer is also the director of the London Symphony Wind Ensemble with whom he has recorded for Angel major wind works of R. Strauss. Mr. de Peyer appears regularly as conductor on the London South Bank and throughout the world."
