Abstract
The following analysis is the result of employing the constant comparative method to distinguish connections among data collected by way of semi-structured interviews with tech savvy individuals in the journalism field. The people interviewed came from a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences, and either work in newsrooms, or outside of newsrooms but employing technical skills in the service of journalism. Some of the participants came into journalism from the tech field, more specifically, computer science and computer engineering, and therefore do not have any formal educational or experiential background in journalism. However, the findings of this study indicate that certain elements from the tech field are being absorbed into the journalism field as the importance of tech skills become more important on an institutional level. The theoretical framework for this analysis is institutionalism given that the elements of tech being absorbed into the journalism industry are being abided on an institutional level.
