Abstract
In the spirit of novels like The Mothers and The Incendiaries, Our End Times explores the pain of leaving faith communities. Daniel and Ethel are caught up in a sex scandal in their small, Pentecostal church. They leave for Kansas City, Ethel to "Unchristianize" herself and Daniel because Ethel's father, the de-facto power at their church, banishes him to be a part of an apocalyptic, revivalist group. When Ethel's father is caught in his own scandal, it destabilizes everything they've taken for granted. Unsolicited prayers, traveling healing evangelists, and being blamed for the theft of sex toys are just part of the territory.
