Abstract
This research project explores the question: In this period of "fake news" and conspiracy theories, what is GenZ's process like for discerning valid, legitimate news and information? For this generation, considered to be born from 1996 to 2010, their experience with digital media is extensive -- social media participation, chat groups, YouTube and other video, gaming as a social outlet, and using smartphones, tablets, and computers. It all started at a very early age for school, entertainment, and social engagement. How can news outlets make content more appealing to GenZ -- building on accurate news reporting and reaching them through various methods and formats in digital media? This study's research includes qualitative in-depth interviews with 11 undergraduate journalism major GenZ students. These participants are attending the Missouri School of Journalism. Their perspectives on news are very relevant for this study.
