Abstract

Students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) often face tremendous challenges in making the transition into adulthood. One highly discussed facet of adulthood is independence. However, few discuss the multilayer complexities of achieving your personal goals, working through complicated tasks, and navigating daily life routines within the college or postsecondary setting (Li et al., 2023). Nonetheless, every day we tackle and maneuver through tasks to meet our evolving expectations. The culmination of these tasks constantly shifts, including professional tasks, personal tasks, academic tasks, social tasks, and much more. The focus of the current study is utilizing self-monitoring checklists to promote task analysis for successful completion of coursework and increasing independent performance. The study showed that the participant learned how to effectively utilize a self-monitoring checklist and task analysis sheet to track coursework.
