Abstract
Nothing has been as central to the lives of University of Missouri students as the library. Yet few academic divisions have changed as fundamentally or rapidly. From implementing the nation's first library automation system to building a technology-driven Information Commons, University of Missouri Libraries have earned a worldwide reputation for innovation. As MU Libraries celebrate the centennial of the Elmer Ellis Library Building, librarians build the electronic databases, online classrooms and digital media labs of the future while preserving the clay tablets, government documents and rare books of the past.
