Abstract
[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] This body of work presents a visual rejection of understood ideas of acceptance and a vindication of new ones. As a maker, I obtain an "anti state of mind" that carries forth energy in rejection, but most largely in the search for an answer of what is acceptable. The answer for what is good comes from a search for what is free. It is not enough for my objects to be refined and easily understood, but to be stripped away of my previous understandings of what is acceptable. This work challenges the viewer to question my methods of making as well as resonate an energy and sense of revolt. My decisions create a visual tone that can be likened to a good punk rock song: brief, impassioned and raw.
