Abstract
The species of Lupinus for Argentina are reviewed in a morphological and taxonomic study. For the country of Argentina and vicinity there were 85 species cited. Over 45 holotypes, numerous isotypes and several non-type materials were studied in detail. A photograph of herbarium specimens and the dissection of flowers were made for each type specimen. After a critical evaluation of each species a list of synonyms was proposed for several taxa. The initial number of species was reduced to 29 species and three varieties. Only seven names of the 85 epithets cited have not been treated since it was not possible to verify these with the type material. A taxonomic key for the identification of each taxon was made on the basis of vegetative and floral characteristics. A detailed description of the genus, and each species is presented along with photographs of specimens and enlargements of flower dissections. For some species line drawings were also prepared. The work is completed with a critical review of the taxonomic position of the family and genus. The economic importance of the genus is also discussed. The principal phytogeographic features of Argentina are discussed in a special chapter a long with the ecological adaptability of the species studied.
