Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) continue to be the leading cause of mortality in the US (1) with more than 40% and 25% of adults with obesity and overweight being diagnosed with elevated blood pressure (2) and about 48% with vascular disease (3). Epidemiological evidence indicates that dietary intake modulates cardiovascular health (4). Consumption of functional foods such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts is positively associated with improved cardiovascular health (5). However, the long-term effects of personalizing dietary interventions for young adults with overweight and obesity are not well-studied.
