Abstract

This paper explores secondary educators' experiences with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training at Davidson Public Schools. A qualitative case study was conducted to define the scope of DEI trainings' ability to shape educators' experiences with their positionality and to help educators recognize their own implicit biases. The case study involved qualitative interviewing of twelve Davidson High School teachers across three different High Schools. All interviewees expressly stated the need for DEI training for all members of the school staff. Stating that it is imperative to understand the lived experiences of individuals who have different social identities. The DEI training program at Davidson should structure their training to include more reflection on social identity, provide real world examples on how to acknowledge implicit bias, and differentiate it's training to meet a wide variety of learners.
