Abstract

"Clover mites are very small, reddish or brownish relatives of spiders and ticks. They are plant feeders usually preferring clovers, lawn grasses, and certain ornamental shrubs and trees. The mites may appear in the home as an annoying pest when a heavy growth of well-fertilized grass exists close to foundation walls. Houses in new developments are especially prone to have clover mite infestations. Mites enter the household in the fall through cracks in the floor, walls, or masonry. They usually are first noticed crawling over the window sills, baseboards, drapes, or curtains. Although harmless to pets and humans, they are considered a nuisance because of the tremendous number that may be present and the rest stains left from crushing them."--First page.
