Abstract

"The human face has had a fascination for the artist throughout antiquity as well as in later ages. Potters often used the face to decorate their vessels, from time to time even modeling a whole pot in the form of a human head. The simpler concept of just decorating the front of a vase with human features was also sometimes used, and an Etruscan example of this technique dating to the sixth century B.C. is included in the collections of the Museum of Art and Archaeology of the University of Missouri."--First paragraph.
