Abstract
[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] For the purpose of food quality and safety during short-term transportation and storage in developing or rural areas, low energy consumption and environmental friendly methods are needed for use in cooling systems and related applications. In this study, a new cooling system model using absorbent fabric wrapping in curtain structure on scaffolding for short-term transportation and storage was built and a series of laboratory scale experiments to verify the basic concept of the new model have been designed. Based on experimental results, proper absorbent materials and curtain structure wrapping method have shown good cooling performance.
