Abstract
"This study is a rhetorical criticism of the development of the orator. The arrangement of the investigation is chronological dealing with the personal, professional, political, and rhetorical events that influenced Curran before he became the leading advocate for the United Irishmen in the state trials. Chapter II opens the study with an investigation of Curran's early life in Newmarket and his education at the Middleton School, Trinity College, Dublin, and the Middle Temple. Chapter III follows Curran's career from his admission to the Irish bar to his entry into the Irish House of Commons. Chapter IV deals with his parliamentary experience and analyzes the development of his political ideas. Chapter V is a detailed analysis of his defense of Archibald Hamilton Rowan, and Chapter VI presents the conclusions drawn from this study."--Introduction.
