God of Some Things for Ensemble
Abstract
God of Some Things takes sculptures and collages of artist Huma Bhabha and creates sonic illustrations of her uncanny work. In twelve movements, each representing a different art piece, the work takes a kaleidoscopic and pastiche approach to large scale composition. This work is about a quest for religion. Not a first religion, but a new one: a truth. Much like how Mahler views his symphonies as a protagonist’s quest, I too am consumed by a hero’s journey in this work. The hero, as we’ll call them, searches for a truth: something to believe in.
