Quadriceps strengthening has been shown to be effective in the treatment of patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Weight-bearing (closed kinetic chain) and non-weight-bearing exercises (open kinetic chain) are equally effective. (SOR: B, based on 2 systematic reviews.) Some early evidence exists for hip-strengthening exercises. (SOR: C, based on a pilot study.)
