Abstract: RCTs looking at the magnesium sulfate for neuroprotection in women with imminent preterm labor found no difference in primary outcomes. However, in a meta-analysis of secondary outcomes, rates of cerebral palsy (CP) and gross motor dysfunction were reduced. Based on this evidence, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends magnesium sulfate for neuroprophylaxis when preterm delivery seems likely.
