Abstract: Ankle sprain is the most common trauma among athletes, accounting for 14% of all sports-related injuries. In January 2010, we discussed how semirigid ankle foot orthoses (srAFO, ie, ankle braces that resist inversion and eversion forces) and proprioception physical therapy were effective at preventing reinjury in people with a prior history of ankle sprain. Unfortunately a stigma exists regarding the use of srAFO in sports, and perhaps with some reason.
