What are the options for treating presumed benign ovarian cysts?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
Nearly all benign-appearing ovarian cysts resolve spontaneously in 2 to 3 months, so watchful waiting is considered first-line treatment. Oral contraceptives do not hasten the resolution of existing cysts. About three-quarters of benign-appearing cysts that persist beyond 2 to 3 months are pathologic, so surgical intervention may be indicated. (SOR: A, based on a systematic review.)
