What antibody studies are helpful in the diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis?

While anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies and anti-thyroglobulin (anti-Tg) antibodies both have high specificity (>90%) for the diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, anti-TPO antibodies are a more sensitive. Routine antibody testing, however, is not generally recommended in the setting of uncomplicated hypothyroidism. (SOR: C, based on expert opinion.)
